THE CHALLENGE
The natural world - land, air, water, and all forms of life - is the foundation of human civilization. We have not treated the Earth well - the actions of people and societies everywhere continue to degrade the world's ecosystem. Many of these are reaching an irreversible tipping point and will not be able to support life as we have relied on in the past. Magnified by climate change, the threats this degradation will pose to human well-being are growing rapidly and present challenges and potential consequences for humanity on a scale we have never before experienced. As a result, humanity is entering a time of uncertainty, turmoil, and transition.

OUR RESPONSE
Faced with this reality, we need leaders who understand these challenges and who can guide others - those who may be trapped in ignorance, denial, fear, anger, and grief - through difficult times. The challenges ahead require:

Understanding the current situation;
Accepting that drastic and sometimes catastrophic change is coming; and
In this change, seeing and seizing opportunities to create a more resilient world.
